There was a time when writing was a revered art form: a living channel that connected hearts harmonious in spirit but separated, perhaps, by time and space. Free from the automated and monetized entrapments of life in the Digital Age, writing was simply an outlet for the natural instincts of human creativity, a way to express the ideas, thoughts, and stories free-floating within our depths.
Nowadays, much of that depth is flattened to fit the lifeless confines of digital algorithms and branding. One might argue this is just how things are in a highly technologized, capitalistic society. But humanity feels all the more bereft for it.
The Canary Poet is this writer’s attempt to put life back into words and genuine, heartfelt words back into a world that, for all appearances, wishes to remain coldly unfeeling.
Here you may find essays of science overlaid with the odds and ends of poetry. Social criticisms encased in velvet good humour. Lighthearted musings on serious topics of interest.
Or, you may well find the opposite. As my temperament changes with the days, so too will the shape of my writing.
But mostly, here you will find stories about life. Love. Connection. Yearning, for a lighter way of being.
For in a confusing, upside-down world where everything precious can be sold for a price, the groundedness of truth sought by our anxious, disconnected minds will not be found in “content” but in art: a higher medium impervious to corruption and holds innately the seeding potential for a gentler world.
I know I’m not the only one yearning for that world. So, if like me, you are a dreamer: welcome. I’m glad I can share this space with you.
